It’s clear we have an addiction to contact lenses, a sort of can’t live with, can’t live without case. People who wear glasses to improve their vision crave a pair of discreet lenses, but when they have it, they enter a new range of problems. The sky is not the limit with contact lenses, even if the giants of technology trick us into believing it is. Contacts have made a long journey from simple glass to permeable substances and built-in cameras, but they still come with a lot of issues. Let’s call them struggles, for the sake of this article, dedicated to all the contact-wearers who wouldn’t change their little lenses for the trendiest pair of glasses. Ever!

When you lose one lense you feel the end is near

All people who wear contact lenses know the struggle to find a perfect fit pair, as well as the cost of that perfect fit. This is why they feel the end of everything is near when one of their lenses become lost. Losing a contact is one of the worst things that can happen to you, especially when it happens outside your house. Depending on your ailment, the road back home can become an ordeal, as you only have to rely on one eye for walking straight on the street or driving. Then there is the money issue: a good pair of contacts is expensive. Unless you want to become blind you do need to invest in your lenses, which makes losing them a nightmare. It’s enough to lose one, to make the other one useless.

You can’t go with the flow and have a sleepover

Contact lenses might be great when you want to try on the mesmerizing smokey eye makeup, but after the mesmerizing phase is gone and you are asked to spend the night at someone’s house, you start panicking. Contact-wearers will recognize the struggle of having to pick between  sleeping with the lenses on and carrying their contact cleaning supplies with them 24/7. Or the third option, which is rejecting the sleepover. The reality is all people who wear contact lenses have to make sure they have an extra pair with them, as well as all the gear needed to clean them and store them for the night. The alternative to this is gruesome, as sleeping with your lenses on can lead to blindness, so it’s not something to play with. Another thing you can’t do when you are wearing your lenses is swim, so plan your pool parties carefully.

Your eyes are in tears more often than you wish

Contacts make your eyes more prone to dryness and can increase the sensitivity, which means your eyes will be in tears on windy days. Of course, wind is not the only thing that can reduce you to tears, but it’s one of the most common problems. Thanks to Murphy, your eyes will start crying at the most inopportune moments. Like in the middle of a very important business meeting.

You can’t watch TV before sleep without glasses

Many people believe contact-wearers don’t need glasses, but the reality is we need them more than you think. For example, after the lenses come off and go to their case, you can’t see clear, so watching TV before sleep is impossible without glasses. Similar situations abound in the life of a person who relies on contact lenses.

When you can’t wear them, you will miss them

One of the struggles people who don’t wear contacts will never understand is how much you miss your little friends when you can’t wear them. Behind a pair of glasses, which are sure to sparkle interest among every person you are going to meet, you will be complaining how hard it is to be forced to wear these trendy accessories. Then, when you get your lenses back, you will be complaining about all the above, but if someone tries to persuade you to switch to glasses, you will be appalled.

On the bright side, you rock Halloween

People who wear contact lenses almost always rock Halloween parties, because they know exactly how to get the best cosplay, using sclera contacts. There is nothing more frightful than black scleras, which completely cover your eyes, making you look more like Wes Borland of Limp Bizkit. But there is also a downside of sclera contact lenses: you have to forgo driving and other activities which require a sharp vision, as they cause a tunnel-like vision.

You often feel like Cinderella

Remember how Cinderella had to be back home by midnight? Contact-wearers remember it very well because we know exactly just how long we can wear the lenses before our eyes start itching and become infected.

The struggle of taking out your lenses

This one is specific to people who wear colored lenses, which look fantastic and give you the most amazing eye colors, but have to come out. There are multiple types of colored lenses – visibility lenses, which only have a slight coloration to help you maneuver them easier; enhancement lenses, which enhance your natural eye color, and opaque lenses which completely hide your eye color and replace it with the color of the lenses – so depending on which one you wear, your friends/partner might have a shock when the lenses come off. But falling in love with a green-eyed beauty who is a brown-eyed beauty is one of the modern struggles, right? Featured photo credit: Albumarium via albumarium.com
